Larger than life-size sculptures. The LEGO “mini figure” stood at 12 ft tall and was created in collaboration with 14 other students at the University of Michigan. It was then displayed outside the largest window of a student gallery which accepted what the faculty thought was the best work some students were creating. In doing so we were able to subvert the entire gallery and take the focus away from the so called “worthy” work of some students, which comedically yet honestly opened up conversation about the subjective nature of art.

The large scale figure stands at 7 ft tall, while the figure would be 8 ft tall standing erect. This sculpture was created for my thesis project and is part of a larger project along with a digital rendering of the same sculpture. With an iPad and AR technology one was able to walk around the piece and see the same image as what was in front of them physically. Together they are meant to ponder the question, if you can see something just as well in the digital space, is the physical object obsolete? Is it worth seeing the sculpture in real life? Do you feel the same emotions when you see the digital piece as when you experience the physical sculpture in the physical world?
